Michaela’s first restaurant job was as a barista and food runner at Hazel’s Country Kitchen in the South End. A true Bostonian, she grew up in the City Point side of South Boston and graduated from Boston Latin School in the Fenway. She went on to attend UMass Boston, winning a creative writing prize for poetry in 2003, before moving to Oakland to pursue a double major in creative writing and classics at San Francisco State University.

While living in Oakland, Michaela worked for nine years as an employee-owner at Zachary’s Chicago Pizza, a full-service East Bay eatery that boasts more than 100 beat pizza awards. She became enamored by the food and culture of the Bay Area, from the farmers’ markets and slow-food movement in Berkeley, to the late night taco trucks in East Oakland.

Michaela moved back to Boston in 2012 to be close to family and to be a part of the ever-growing Boston restaurant scene. Before joining the Frankllin Restaurant Group team at its flagship restaurant Franklin Café, she was the head server at Tavern Road, where she also trained as a bartender.

In her new role as General Manager at the Franklin Cafe, Michaela is proud to be a part of a South End hospitality institution.
